About One Barangaroo (Crown Sydney)

In Barangaroo, New South Wales, Australia, stands Crown Sydney, also called One Barangaroo after its street address. WilkinsonEyre designed the skyscraper, which has 75 floors and reaches 271.3 m (890 ft), the tallest building in Sydney. Crown Resorts developed it. Mainly a hotel and residential apartments, it also holds a casino and other hospitality venues. It is a major part of the plan to redevelop Barangaroo in central Sydney, and its neighbors in a cluster of skyscrapers are One Sydney Harbour and International Towers.

Its site was once industrial wharves; after they fell out of use, the 1960s and 70s saw them paved over by land reclamation. Crown Resorts held a design competition in 2013, and a jury voted unanimously in May 2013 for the WilkinsonEyre design over shortlisted entries from Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill and Kohn Pedersen Fox. The design draws on natural forms and curved geometry, with three "petals" twisting and rising as one. Parametric 3D modeling gave the outer skin a 60-degree twist, with helical columns on the perimeter and a vertical core.

Construction began in October 2016 with excavation and decontamination of the site. Tower cranes were assembled in February and March 2018, and the structure then began to rise, with a top-down method used on the core. By March 2019 it had reached 120 m (390 ft), and the fitting of about 7000 triangular glass panels to the facade followed. The main core topped out in March 2020, the floorplates reached the full architectural height in May 2020, and the tower was inaugurated to the public on December 28, 2020.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Twisting skin with fine panel lines
The tower is a smooth, twisting shape with fine panel lines running up its skin. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the curves smooth, and slow printing with good cooling helps the narrow top.
Slim tower on a low podium
The tower is tall and slim next to its low podium base. Print friendly adapts thin parts to your print scale; Full detail keeps the fine skin detail, best with a larger print.
One piece with the ground
One Barangaroo (Crown Sydney) is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. One Barangaroo (Crown Sydney) takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
