About the The Peninsula New York

The Peninsula New York is a hotel where Fifth Avenue meets 55th Street, in Midtown Manhattan. Hiss and Weekes designed it, and it dates from 1905, when it was the Gotham Hotel. It belongs to the Peninsula Hotels group, owned by Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels. The limestone and granite facade was meant to harmonize with the University Club of New York next door, and it is divided into a base, a shaft and a capital. Despite its sturdy look, the facade is a curtain wall hung from the steel frame.

A series of triple-height piers of rusticated blocks forms an arcade along the three-story base, turning the corner from Fifth Avenue onto 55th Street. The main entrance, in the middle of the 55th Street side, sits under a segmentally arched broken pediment with sculptures of the ancient goddesses Ceres and Diana, and large Ionic columns flank the doorway. The building is shaped like a "C", wrapped around a light court that looks south toward the University Club.

The 55th Street Company bought the site in April 1902, and the Gotham Hotel opened on October 1, 1905. Several failed attempts to get a liquor license led to a sale in 1908, and it changed hands often afterward. After a renovation it reopened in November 1987 under the name Hotel Maxim's de Paris, and Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels took over its lease in 1989 and renamed it the Peninsula New York. In the 1980s a three-story glass penthouse by Stephen B. Jacobs was added above the original roof, and it holds the pool and fitness center.

How it prints

Ornate roof and cornice
The roofline carries detailed ornament. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep it crisp, and Full detail suits a larger print.
Between taller towers
Taller buildings stand close around the hotel in the model. A larger print size keeps the narrow gaps readable.
One piece with the ground
The The Peninsula New York is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The The Peninsula New York takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
