About the Waldorf Astoria New York

The Waldorf Astoria New York, a hotel and residential condominium building, stands in Midtown Manhattan at 301 Park Avenue, on the block between 49th and 50th Streets. Schultze and Weaver designed the 47-story Art Deco structure, which stands 191 m (625 ft) tall and was completed in 1931. It held the title of the world's tallest hotel until Moscow's Hotel Ukraina surpassed it in 1957. New York City's Landmarks Preservation Commission has designated both its exterior and its interior as official city landmarks.

The original Waldorf-Astoria, put up in two stages during the 1890s, came down in 1929 to clear the way for the Empire State Building. The first steel column of the new hotel went in on March 24, 1930, and the steel frame topped out on October 22, 1930, 191 m (625 ft) above the street. The hotel opened on Park Avenue on October 1, 1931. At that time it was the largest and tallest hotel anywhere, it filled the entire block, and its construction used more steel than the Woolworth Building.

The slender central tower became the Waldorf Towers, with an entrance of its own on 50th Street and 100 suites, about one-third of them leased as private residences. Herbert Hoover made the Presidential Suite his home for 20 years following his wife's death, and Frank Sinatra kept a suite there from 1979 to 1988. In October 1949, Conrad Hilton gained management rights over the hotel.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Small towers on the roof
Two small stepped towers crown the roofline. Print friendly adapts such small details to the print scale, while Full detail keeps every one, which suits larger prints or a fine nozzle.
A fine grid of windows
Rows of narrow windows cover the tall facade. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep this fine vertical detail crisp, and a bigger print size keeps more of the grid.
One piece with the ground
The Waldorf Astoria New York is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Waldorf Astoria New York takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
