About Zürich

Zurich is Switzerland's largest city and serves as capital of its namesake canton. It sits in the north-central part of the country, on the northwestern tip of Lake Zurich. The urban area had 1.45 million people in 2020 and the metropolitan area 2.1 million. Rail, road and air traffic all converge on the city, and its airport and main railway station rank as the biggest and busiest in the country. The Romans founded Zurich as Turicum, and in 1519 it became a leading center of Europe's Protestant Reformation under Huldrych Zwingli.

Zurich has few tall buildings compared with other cities, and municipal building regulations confine high-rises to the western and northern parts of the city. In Altstetten and Oerlikon, in the industrial district, heights up to 80 m (260 ft) are allowed, and up to 40 m (130 ft) in the adjacent areas. Voters clearly rejected an initiative that would have tightened those limits on November 29, 2009. The Prime Tower was the tallest skyscraper in Switzerland when it was built, and the world's tallest grain silo, the brutalist Swissmill Tower, measures 118 m (387 ft).

Common questions

Are these Zürich landmark models free?

Yes. All 2 models on this page are free. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.

Can I download Zürich landmark STL files?

Mini Skyline builds each file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How tall do the Zürich landmarks print?

On the default 160 mm print they stand between about 3 and 11 mm tall. Each landmark grows with the print size, and Make this print opens the generator with its area already selected. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.
