About Motegi

Motegi, a town in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, sits on the far eastern border of the prefecture. An estimated 11,777 people lived there in 4503 households on August 1, 2020, which works out to 68 persons per km2 across 172.69 square kilometers (66.68 sq mi). Modern municipal government began in 1889, when the town and three villages, Sakagawa, Nakagawa and Sudo, were set up in Haga District, and the town absorbed the villages on August 1, 1954. The population reached its peak in the 1950s and has fallen steadily since.

Motegi is home to Mobility Resort Motegi, a Honda-built complex that hosts every kind of car and go-cart racing. Other attractions include a resort-style hotel, camping and nature at "Hello Woods," and the Honda Collection Hall, a museum of transport. Nissan also tests off-road vehicles at proving grounds in the town. Rail service comes from the Mooka Railway's Mooka Line, which runs between Ten'yaba and Motegi, and the town is served by National Routes 123 and 294.
