About Edinburgh
Edinburgh serves as Scotland's capital and is one of the country's 32 council areas. It lies in southeast Scotland, with the Pentland Hills on its southern side and the Firth of Forth on its northern side. In 2020 it had 506,520 residents, making it Scotland's second-most-populous city after Glasgow, and the wider metropolitan area had 912,490. Scotland has recognized it as its capital since at least the 15th century, and the Scottish Government, the Scottish Parliament and the country's highest courts are all based there. The city has long been a center of education, and the University of Edinburgh dates from 1582.
Edinburgh fills a narrow gap on a landscape formed by early volcanic activity and later glaciation. Castle Rock, one of the volcanic plugs of tough basalt, made the advancing ice sheet divide, and the crag and tail that formed, with a valley on its north side and a hollow on its south side, created a natural strongpoint on which Edinburgh Castle was built. Arthur's Seat is what remains of a volcano. The Georgian New Town went up in the 18th and 19th centuries, and UNESCO lists it with the Old Town as one World Heritage Site. A green belt designated in 1957 encircles the city, apart from the shoreline.

Common questions
Are these Edinburgh landmark models free?
Yes. All 3 models on this page are free. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
Can I download Edinburgh landmark STL files?
Mini Skyline builds each file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.
How tall do the Edinburgh landmarks print?
On the default 160 mm print they stand between about 6 and 15 mm tall. Each landmark grows with the print size, and Make this print opens the generator with its area already selected. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.
